Police Meeting

The 48th Precinct’s Community Council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, June 29, at 7 p.m. at 1071 E. Tremont Ave. These meetings, which fall on the last Tuesday of every month, give residents a chance to meet local police officers, ask questions, and air concerns. All are welcome. Botanical Garden Farmers Market

The New York Botanical Garden’s farmers market returns for the summer. There will be a weekly market that takes place every Wednesday from June 16 to Nov. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The market will feature top-notch produce and breads including the freshest fruits and vegetables from around the state. The NYBG is located at 2900 Southern Blvd.

Bronx River Festival

The Bronx River Festival will be held on Saturday, June 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at River Park, East 180 th Street and Boston Road. There will be free canoe rides, butterfly plants, dancers, music and a Latin hip-hop concert. Call (718) 430-4636 or visit www.bronxriver.org for more information.

Summer Events in Crotona Park

Friends of Crotona Park are featuring a number of events this summer. Movies will be shown in the park’s amphitheater: “Shrek the Third” on July 13 and “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” on July 20, both starting at 8 p.m. A series of hip-hop concerts will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on July 1, at Charlotte Street and Crotona Park East and on July 15 at Crotona Avenue and Crotona Park South. Free Fitness Classes

A professional trainer from the New York Sports Club will lead free fitness classes in Crotona Park every Monday and Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of the park’s tennis courts, at 1700 Crotona Ave. The class will feature light aerobics, stretching, basic fitness principles, and education about eating and living healthy.

Free Health Screening

St. Barnabas Hospital and the Mobile Mammography Program are providing free breast cancer screenings on Monday, June 28, regardless of health insurance status. Summer Reading Kickoff Party

The Belmont Library and Enrico Fermi Cultural Center is holding a summer reading kickoff party on Monday, June 21 at 3 p.m. on the library’s first floor, at East 186th Street and Hughes Avenue. Science Class for Kids

The West Farms Library, at 2085 Honeywell Ave., will host a “Spin Pop Boom,” science show on Wednesday, July 7 at 3:30 p.m. Presented by Mad Science of Manhattan and Westchester, the show will feature fun chemistry and science demonstrations for children 5 and up.
